The Plague of the Sixth Pass killed many, many thousands of people as it ravaged Pern's population. One Goldrider and her Queen sacrificed themselves in order to help save many more lives during The Plague. Her name went down in history as a hero.
And then, Lessa impressed Ramoth, many Turns later. She went back in time to help save her future from annihilation. That was nearly a hundred turns ago. With the rediscovery of AIVAS, many things were developed to help ease the life of many. Everything was going good, until Master Robinton died of an overworked heart.
With his death, and the shutdown of AIVAS, many were left wondering what they should do now. According to AIVAS, the mission to the Red Star to prevent Thread from falling ever again had been a success. There was celebration all across Pern.
But ...... They were wrong.
AIVAS had miscalculated.
And now, fifty Turns later, there are signs of the Red Star returning, on a different elliptical orbit. A terrible volcano erupted near Landing and the College and the lava flow destroyed both Landing and the College. Nearly everything was lost, save for the printouts of the new Healing techniques and procedures, as well as a few instruments with instructions, that had been stashed at the Healer Hall on the Northern Continent. Only a handful of people and resident Dragonriders were able to escape from the devastated Landing Site and College just before the lava flow hit.
New colors began to show in clutches. Going back fifty turns, and all of them can trace their lineage back to a Gold Queen that had been sick at Southern Weyr. She'd just had a flight and had been won by her mate for the seventh time since she'd matured. Her clutch had been a record 43 eggs, with four Queen eggs. Though, one of the four Queen Eggs was more amber than Gold.
From then on, the colors, Amber, Brass, Black, Copper, and Mauve, have been welcomed among the other Dragonriders of every Weyr. And as the days, then months, then turns flew by, the Dragonriders have kept up their Weyrs, but now hold a large amount of land on the Southern Continent for growing the majority of their crops, as well as breeding their own Herdbeasts and Wherries.
The turn is just barely begun and signs are showing again. Signs that heralded the return of Threadfall. Many Holders, and a few Craft Masters, did not believe that the signs were acurate, and the Holders and Craft Masters acused the Dragonriders of pretending to speak of those signs that Thread was returning.
But .... something else is happening too. Something hard to perceive is happening to Pern's tectonic plates that reside under the crust of Pern's mantle of crust. An unstoppable catastrophe is looming on Pern's horizon.
Two turns later .....
Despite the signs of imminent Threadfall and the more subtler signs of an unstable Pern, the Weyrs keep up their duties and clutches are being clutched. Hatchings are happening. A tregey occured during a Hatching at Benden. Just as a hatchling as seeking it's bonded, the volcano he sands was in errupted! Lava flowed from the now active volcano, killing everything it touched. Benden Weyr was evacuated, survivors scattered to the other Weyrs and Holds.
Thread fell. It fell on a Hold in Honshu's and the Riders rose up to meet their ancient enemy. Again, the Riders succeeded with minimal casualties. Though one of their Queens was injured on her side for saving the life of a Copperrider whose dragon had gotten scored and had begun to spiral to the ground, unable to control her speed.
Threadfall has begun to fall in earnest.
The techtonic plates are closer now to shifting.
The disaster is looming closer and closer ....
Will anyone survive?
Will you survive?
