Slateface
53 moons | Tom-cat | ThunderClan | Warrior
"Who could ever love a beast?"
Badly scarred gray tom with dark points and one green eye.
''APPEARANCE;; Not required.
''PERSONALITY;; Slateface is a severely introverted cat. He makes a point to keep relationships on a strictly Clanmate-to-Clanmate level. Much of this is based in his deep-rooted fear of losing those he loves. His history and heart are carved with the names of loved ones that have passed and Slateface has made it part of his mission in life to make sure that list doesn't grow any longer. He was a spoiled and cruel apprentice and many of his clanmates can barely trust him, forget about liking him. Some of them even said he deserved his injuries from the fox. Whenever he hears this, he always feels the need to lash at them and ask if Blackpaw deserved to die as well. One thing he hasn't lost from his kithood is his pride. He will never ask for help, never admit defeat and never run away. He would rather die fighting, strong and scarred than run away and live in shame and loneliness forever.
''HISTORY;;
''KIT LIFE;; Slateface and his brother Black-kit were born to Violetpelt and Grayclaw, a previous deputy. They were strong and healthy, but their mother was sickly and the birth was hard on her. Violetpelt was a beautiful black she-cat with a delicate build and an overall dainty aura. She died from a sickness that ran through the camp that leaf-bare. The clan felt sorry for her sons. Without a mother and a father that was too busy with clan affairs, they were adopted by the rest of the queens and fussed over much of the time. They were spoiled and conceited, insisting that the entire clan stop what they were doing in order to help them. They were vain little kits too. Constantly complimented on how handsome they were and how much they looked like their parents, the two began to think that looks were the only way to get anywhere in life.
''APPRENTICE;; Slateface was spoiled, selfish and unkind when he and his brother began their apprenticeship. The two were given seasoned, hard-core warriors for mentors that wouldn't let them skim by on good looks. First they were frustrated and upset, of course. It felt like they're family had abandoned them. After their initial disappointment, the two brothers threw themselves into their training. They grew into broad-shouldered, strong young toms with dashing good looks and skills matching those of some of the younger warriors. To their elders, they were ideal apprentices. They were courteous and respectful, even if they did spend a bit too much time on their appearance. However, what they didn't know was how they behaved out of their sight. They bullied the younger apprentices, making them do their duties at times and threatening them if they tried to tell on them. They took credit for everything, not letting any other apprentice outshine them. Things stayed this way until a litter of kits became apprentices. The biggest of them stood up to Slateface and called him the fattest, laziest cat in the clan. Slateface didn't take that kindly, and swore that he could do anything that a whole patrol could do on their own. The kit took his oath, betting him that he couldn't take down a single fox without any warriors. It was well known that a fox had made a den in the territory though none could find it. So Slateface promised he would track and kill the fox and bring back its tail as a souvenir. He set out right then with Blackpaw in tow as a witness. They tracked a fox trail to an old oak where they were ambushed by the returning fox. Slateface attacked immediately, putting up a brave fight and taking a severe wound to his neck. However, the fox knocked him unconcious with a heavy low from its paw. When Slateface awoke, he was in the medicine den swathed in cobwebs. He had lost an eye and most of the hearing in one ear from the blow and the gash in his neck nearly killed him. He figured his brother was similarly hurt or perfectly fine and had run to camp for help after he'd been knocked out. When he asked about him though, no one answered. Finally, his father took him out to where Blackpaw was buried, nearly unrecognizable. Slateface was a solitary creature after that. After three moons in the medicine den, he was allowed to begin training again. Of course, he had to learn to fight without an eye or an ear but he was in no rush. The training kept him occupied and wouldn't let him think about Blackpaw. It took six moons for Slateface to learn how to do everything he could before his scars with his new injuries.
''WARRIOR;; He was twenty-two moons old before the leader thought he was healed enough to become a warrior. The leader called the meeting in late summer, and only half of the Clan came to the meeting. His denmates from his apprenticeship and the apprentices that followed were told stories of his cruelty and had inherited a wariness, if not a hatred, of the dark tom. The only cats that called his new name, Slateface, were the queens from his kithood, his mentor and his father. Slateface has only had one apprentice. At about 38 moons he was given Cloverpaw. She was a pretty tabby she-cat with an eager, bubbly personality and she was kind to him, even after hearing the horror stories the other cats passed around. Unfortunately, their relationship lasted only a few moons as the kit was put on a raiding party that went terribly wrong. She made it back to camp but died from an infection. Slateface watched her die with a broken heart and hasn't taken on an apprentice since.
''RP EX;; Not required.
